Psycademy Testimonials...

Having a Breakthrough with Lisa so significantly changed my life that I can almost not recognise myself, everyone tells me how different I am, and I feel inwardly confident, calm, positive and totally motivated to know that whatever I decide to do I will achieve it.

Random Acts of Gratitude

Have you sent a RAG today?

If you were to stand amongst any group of people and started to have a little whinge, not only would you get an audience – they would fully participate.

Websites often have a special place where you can list your complaints – companies have WHOLE departments dedicated to and called “customer complaints”. Ok some have rebranded themselves “customer services” but the roles haven’t changed

The BBC dedicates a primetime show to complaining – it’s called Watchdog. And for a large part sets out to look for any minor error a company might have made. Companies are made up of people, who for the most part are trying to do their best. Yes they want the sales and to make a profit – but that’s not evil. It’s good, make a profit, stay in business, employ people so they can fee their family. And sometimes I think customers (me included) forget this.

So why is there never a “Thank us” link? – Customer Gratitude Centre

Why do we so rarely ever let people know when we are grateful?

Over the past few months I have been doing some “random acts of gratitude”. It’s really simple. When I’m happy with a product or service – I write and thank them.

Sometimes it’s really hard and the only way to do it is to submit a “customer compliant” form via their website. I always make sure they know I’m not complaining.

Today I sent a random act of gratitude to Cannon. I thanked them for making a camcorder that is simple to use and affordable. I told them that my camcorder made it possible for my Mum, who live in Australia to see my daughter sing in the choir at the Easter Service and play in the snow. Something that she would otherwise miss out on.

I asked them to send my gratitude to all the staff, designers, engineers and manufacturing staff involved in creating such a wonderful gadget that made me and my mum really happy.

This is what they sent back.

Dear Dr Turner,

Thank you for contacting Canon and thank you for the wonderful feedback.

We at Canon value your thoughts and opinions and rest assured your original mail has been sent to the relevant department who will pass on your thoughts.

Yours sincerely,

John Sampson

Can you help me make this  go Viral?

Sending  a Random Act of Gratitude (RAG) not only makes the recipient feel good. It makes the sender feel good too.

So let’s make this viral. Send a link to this post to everyone you know.  And get the bandwagon yourself.

Send a RAG to Someone. Anyone. The supermarket, the corner shop, your Mum, the vet, a good friend. Anyone and Everyone.

I am aiming to send one every week.  Why don’t you do it too? And let’s see what happens.

Have fun.

Why not post your RAG stories here too?

Hurrah!

Are we nearly there yet?

Listen to this post here:

MP3 File

Anyone who has kids, knows any kids or has ever been a kid (OK that’s everyone) will have heard the cry from the backseat of the car “are we nearly there yet?”

It seems to be hardwired into us to want to get “there”, wherever “there” is for you. No-one seems to enjoy the journey. Yet isn’t that what life is all about?

Why did you choose to be born or incarnate? Was it so that you could charge headlong towards your death? No.

Most philosophies are based around the principle of evolution, and believe that we incarnate so that we can evolve. So does that mean we should be charging headlong towards some evolutionary goal that might be called “Enlightenment”. NO not that either.

The purpose of life is to be evolving, not be evolved. There is no “there”. The journey is all there is.

Outrageous goals

Last week I set myself an outrageous goal of getting 100 sign ups to my SSCP preview teleseminar. I didn’t quite make it. I got 76 at final count, with 45 dialling in to listen live.

So did I achieve my goal? Not quite. I was 24 short.

Now there are two reactions I could have.

1. I could go into despair and say – how terrible, I set a goal and didn’t get it. I could easily choose to feel really bad about not reaching my target. Or….

2. I could choose to feel really happy that I had increased my personal best for a teleseminar by 3.5 times. I could choose to believe that this is enough and a fantastic step forward in my business and life.

The reason I’m thinking about the whole idea of getting “there” is that on Saturday Psycademy is 5 years old. On any anniversary I tend to think back to what I’ve achieved over the last year, and what I’ve achieved in the last 5 years.

It has been an amazing journey. Not always easy, not always fun. I had to remortgage my house 3 times to set it up. I had some Christian fundamentalists threaten to take out an injunction to keep me out of their venue. Apparently I AM the devil for suggesting that there are other ways to God, and when I went in to enquire if I could rent their hall out for a training, in a very loving Christian way they had their security guards frog march me out of the building. And I still get people telling my courses “are all b*****s”, or giving me a hard time when they don’t agree with my newsletter content. I tell them where the unsubscribe link is.

BUT – despite all the trials, tests, tribulations and troubles – I am still here and yes. I have made it. Where have I made it to? Well… HERE of course.

Here I am, gathering more clients, more students, my database constantly growing. I get wonderful feedback from my students, clients and colleagues. I’ve been featured in the press from Psychologies to the Sun, Marie Claire to Business press. I’ve even been on the TV (only sky) and the radio.

Have I gotten to where I want to be? No, not yet, but that’s because all goals are like the horizon. They are always moving further away. We need to set higher and higher targets AND we need to celebrate our achievements.

Happy people focus on both what they want to achieve AND celebrate what they already HAVE achieved.

So I am celebrating my small achievement, of bringing Psycademy into existence and persevering with it through the challenges to get to where I am.

If you are reading this and like my newsletters, or anything about Psycademy – I’m going to ask a small favour – just send a little message back saying “HURRAH!” and if you want and have time I invite you to share with me some of your own successes from the past 5 years. Just post here on this blog.

And on that note HURRAH!!

 This issues top tip:

  • 1. Set an outrageous goal for the future and enjoy the journey and all the steps you take towards achieving that goal.
  • 2. Think back to where you were at some point in the past and notice how far you have come. Celebrate that achievement.
