This week I got in the Daily Express, where I shared the story of my journey from scientist and engineer (who barely trusted magnetism on the grounds that you can’t see it) to a psychic who channels guides, can “see” people’s energy bodies and knows what illnesses and emotional problems they have.

It’s the story of how I went from Sceptic to Psychic.

Much of what I do as a psychic and spiritual teacher still seems quite bonkers to the scientist in me. But it was the scientist in me who dared to ask questions rather than simply reject what I was experiencing. It’s this that took me on a journey to investigate psychic abilities and the spiritual world.

As a scientist a lot of what is portrayed is, quite frankly, rubbish. It’s bad pseudo science at best, and ego driven manipulation that misleads and can disempower people at worst. It’s fluffy, flaky and useless.

But not all of it.

My experience was that following a near death or out of body experience that I began to notice things that were just inexplicable to my scientific mind at the time:

Burning hands when around someone ill or in pain

I knew things that I had no way of knowing, like the decor in a house I’d never visited

Seeing colours round people’s heads, and lines of “light” through their body.

I could “feel” which wire or sensor of the hundreds to check was faulty on a test rig

I “knew” where to search for a data anomaly in a test that might have otherwise taken hours of signal processing and graph scouring.
Most disconcertingly, I knew that something was very wrong with a man who 3 months later died of cancer, at the time even he didn’t know

I could sense presences when I was supposedly alone.

Quite frankly when I added it all up, there was something going on that warranted further investigation. Which is exactly what I did.

I became an open minded sceptic.

When I broached this with many of my colleagues I was usually met with ridicule. They refused to even consider the evidence. As much of it was based on personal and anecdotal experiences I could understand their scepticism , but what upset me at the time was their cynicism.

There’s a big difference between a sceptic and a cynic.

A sceptic is someone who doesn’t blindly reject or believe, but is open minded and asks questions to reach an understanding.

A cynic is someone who believes that others are only motivated for their own ends, that nothing will work or is possible. They typically don’t believe anything other than what they already know to be true, which closes them off to new experiences or learning.

During my investigations I discovered many ways that psychic abilities or intuition can happen, how they work, and how to train others and myself to enhance their intuitive and psychic thinking, and to open to a more spiritual way of living. The results are that these people tend to be happier, more content, and more resourceful in times of crisis, and they become better at problem solving than they previously were.

Which can only be a good thing.

However, on my journey, I also noticed that there was a lot of blind faith. People so desperate to believe anything or something that they wouldn’t question, they would simply accept whatever their teacher said.

Much of the explanations simply didn’t hold water or stand up to scrutiny, yet they were the common beliefs of most spiritual schools.

I became quite concerned for many of the students of these schools, because, rather than becoming stronger and more resourceful, they seemed to have the opposite result, they became more reliant o their guru for the answers.

Blindly rejecting or blindly accepting is equally dangerous in their own ways. One will lead you do cynicism and being closed minded and rigid. This will stop you seeing opportunities and getting inspiration that might solve problems.
Blindly accepting without question is to be a sheep, to be gullible and to allow you to be disempowered by others.

However if we do dare to ask the questions like: “What’s going on here?” “How can this be happening?” it can lead to a much greater understanding of yourself and the world you live in. Just don’t reject science completely, because very often that is where the answer lies.

I guess that’s why I’m known as the psychic scientist. I’m psychic, and I’m a scientist.

My invitation to others is to cultivate the healthy sceptic. Question what you don’t understand or can’t comprehend. Don’t blindly reject what doesn’t fit with your current worldview, nor blindly accept what you are told.

And you can read what the Express said about me here.

Despite the apparent lack of any scientific evidence of its accuracy, most successful entrepreneurs place a high value on intuition for making decisions. Particularly where there is a large amount of information and where the data is conflicting.

There are few great scientific advances made without intuition. Einstein created his theories of relativity after a visualising sitting on the front of a beam of light and imagining what happens as he travelled along it.

The discoverer of the chemical makeup of Benzene solved the problem of “too few hydrogen atoms” after dreaming of a snake wound in a circle eating its own tail. This image led him to the realisation that the only way the benzene molecule could be made stable is if the carbon atoms were arranged in a circle just like the snake.

This kind of new age visualisation is often slated in the rational world of business, yet without it the world would be a place of slow, cold logic.

Until now that is.

According to a team led by Professor Gerard Hodgkinson of the Centre for Organizational Strategy, Learning and Change at Leeds University Business School, intuition is the result of the way our brains store, process and retrieve information on a subconscious level and so is a real psychological phenomenon (source Science Daily Mar. 6, 2008).

Through analysis of a wide range of research papers examining the phenomenon, the researchers conclude that intuition is the brain drawing on past experiences and external cues to make a decision – but one that happens so fast the reaction is at a non-conscious level. All we’re aware of is a general feeling that something is right or wrong.

“The driver couldn’t explain why he felt he should stop, but the urge was much stronger than his desire to win the race,” explains Professor Hodgkinson. “The driver underwent forensic analysis by psychologists afterwards, where he was shown a video to mentally relive the event. In hindsight he realized that the crowd, which would have normally been cheering him on, wasn’t looking at him coming up to the bend but was looking the other way in a static, frozen way. That was the cue. He didn’t consciously process this, but he knew something was wrong and stopped in time.”

Prof Hodgkinson believes that all intuitive experiences are based on the instantaneous evaluation of such internal and external cues but does not speculate on whether intuitive decisions are necessarily the right ones.

“Humans clearly need both conscious and non-conscious thought processes, but it’s likely that neither is intrinsically better than the other,” he says.

As a Chartered occupational psychologist, Prof. Hodgkinson is particularly interested in the impact of intuition within business, where many executives and managers claim to use intuition over logical analysis when they need to make a quick decision. “We’d like to identify when business people choose to switch from one mode to the other and why – and also analyze when their decision is the correct one. By understanding this phenomenon, we could then help organizations to harness and hone intuitive skills in their executives and managers.” The research is published in the British Journal of Psychology.

Intuition and inspiration are linked to your ability to communicate with both your conscious mind and your unconscious mind.

Modern understanding of the functioning of the conscious and unconscious mind gives us a workable and highly plausible theory of just how inspiration and intuition works.

The conscious mind or left brain uses logic and rational thought. Research suggests that we can only consciously pay attention to 5 – 9 ideas or pieces of information at a time. For example, once you have learnt to drive, the process of driving is done unconsciously. That’s why you can arrive safely at your destination and have no memory of the journey.

The unconscious mind processes over 2 million pieces of information at a time, it filters out superfluous information and only brings to your conscious awareness a tiny fraction of all the information. If you were aware of everything you would be utterly overwhelmed
Due to its much greater processing power the unconscious mind is much better suited to making decisions with large amounts of data. When we access this it’s known as intuition.

There is nothing spooky or magic about it. It is simply the way the mind was designed to work. With training it is possible to increase intuition to the level where others will think you are psychic.

Communication with your unconscious mind can skyrocket your intuition and help you make better decisions more quickly. I would like to offer you free instant access to an online test to find out how intuitive you are.

Yes you read that right. I’m known as being a psychic (and a pretty expensive one too) so why am I saying I hate them?

Well I don’t hate all psychics, just the ones who behave like this….

In the past few months I have been asked to get involved in several cases where a psychic has disempowered a client. The client has contacted me in a state of anxiety or near panic desperate for help.

The cases have ranged from a minor negative prediction that was completely at odds with what the client would choose to a full blown psychic and psychological manipulation that cost the client over £300k.

One person was told that their husband had “a wandering eye”, would have an affair in the next month and they would be divorced within a 18 months. The only good news from this reading was that she would “come into some money” but that it would probably be as a result of the divorce settlement.

Another woman contacted me in a dreadful panic as a psychic had called her up to tell her that she was in danger, needed to book a reading (for $500) in order to find out what the danger was. When she did so apparently her husband was trying to kill her and she was advised to get her life insurance in order.

It’s as much psychology as psychic

The worst kinds of cases are where a psychic completely takes control over the client’s life. They become involved in all major decisions and “guiding” them to make choices determined by the psychic. Every decision, from choice of partners, whether to get divorced where to invest their money. I have known of several psychics who have told clients to file for divorce, where to invest their money and some have ended up being shareholders or on the board in return for their “advice”

Now why would someone so this? How can this happen? Surely people have more sense?

Well actually they do, that’s why they eventually “wake up”, reject the psychic and seek outside help.

The technique for gaining this level of trust and control over the client is subtle, a slow seduction if you like. It starts with the psychic finding the sore spots, the problems, fears, dreams and anxieties of the client. The psychic then plays on these and uses this to psychologically manipulate the client. The process is a form of drip, drip, drip brainwashing. It is as much psychology as it is psychic.

Eventually the client’s free will is completely enslaved by the psychic to the extent that they can’t decide whether to have marmite or jam on their toast without a consultation.

Hope

Is there hope? Of course there is. At some point the psychic crosses a line. Their own greed, ego and hunger for power takes over and they over step the mark. The psychic will just push that bit too far. At this point the client wakes up. It’s as if they step out of trance.

This is often a time of great turmoil for the victim as the person they had put in complete trust suddenly becomes their betrayer. They feel at foolish, betrayed, traumatised, embarrassed and often don’t know where to turn.

My recent experiences with such psychics have saddened and angered me, but they have renewed my love for my own work.

I set up my business, Psycademy, to offer a professional standard training for psychics. So that they could command more respect, and would only ever empower and never disempower their clients. My programme covers psychology as well as spiritual principles and particularly the laws of karma, and the free will.

Is it now time to insist that psychics be registered, and trained properly. You can’t practice as a doctor unless you’re registered. Should we be able to have abusive psychics “struck off”?

A final note. I do appreciate that the vast majority of psychics are very well intentioned and compassionate people. They a completely dedicated to helping others.

Most never intentionally behave in a way that is disempowering for their clients. Some psychics disempower their clients, not through malice but through lack of understanding of psychological and spiritual principles.

Fortunately it is the rare few psychics who behave in ways that are pure evil, but unfortunately they do exist.

Psychics, healers and coaches tend not to be in this business for the money. For them it’s more a calling, a life’s purpose to heal and help others. So why is it that despite such good intentions their lives and work are so challenging? Here are some of the challenges:

1. Not enough paying clients

By clients I mean people who are willing to pay you pay you for your time, as opposed to those who will happily call you to “find out a bit more about what you do” or those who will come for your free introductory session and go away to “think about it”, never to return.

A client is a client when they agree to pay you. They are a prospective client when they call. They are a prospective client when they see your brochure, or website, but they are not your client until you book a session and pay you for your time.

If you don’t have a steady stream of people who will pay for your time then you have a marketing problem. If you spend more time finding clients than working with clients then you have a marketing problem.

2. Trouble convincing clients to come to come to you.

There are a lot of psychics who are great at lead generation, they get lots of people calling up for a chat or more information, but who never seem to tip over into becoming a paying client. usually this is around fear, fear of change and particularly with psychics, fear of knowing a truth they would rather pretend wasn’t there. Rapport and communication skills is a way to solve this problem.

3. Clients that don’t pay

Depending on how you run your practice you can have clients that simply don’t pay their bill. They may argue the price, claim they didn’t benefit, and worst of all – blame you for not solving their problem for them. Solving this requires simple business boundaries like a contract or terms and conditions. Get them to agree to them before you start working together and make sure they stick to them.

4. Client makes the change but rejects you or your role in making the change

Sometimes a client comes to you makes fantastic changes to themselves and their lives. They are healed. But later they deny that they ever had a problem, or that you ever helped them solve their problem. They might say things like “well it was never that bad” – Even when they had cancer and now they don’t! Or they might say “it was getting better anyway I don’t know how much what you did had to do with it”

In addition it is not uncommon for a client to completely avoid you, snub you if you run into them or reject you. They do this because you remind them of their old problem. This isn’t anything to be concerned about and can be quite healthy for the client. If your ego demands recognition and accolades then it’s you who has the problem.

5. Your client stays stuck

For example you or your client may have identified a problem, a limiting belief or a behaviour that does not serve them or an emotional response that is inappropriate, and no matter what you say or do with your client they don’t change. You know what they have to do but they can’t or don’t seem to do it. Solve this by learning more change and healing techniques and working with higher levels of energy. The more energy you have access to the greater the change in your client.

Another way a client can get stuck is they keep coming back with new problems. This can be genuine, that you have unlocked deeper parts of their unconscious mind and their issues are finally being allowed to surface so they can be dealt with, but sometimes it can indicate they have become dependent on you, and this is a problem. Working in a way that empowers the client and doesn’t disempower them will solve this one.

6. Your client rejects what you offer

Psychics are in the business of getting information that will help your client solve problems, avoid mistakes and make the most of their lives. So why is it that they then reject this very information? It might be that you have presented it in the wrong way, or it can be that they need help to integrate it in a way that supports their karmic journey.

7. You take on your client’s karma

Have you ever noticed that your client has gone away healed, their problem is completely solved, but somehow you start to develop problems that are similar or exactly the same?

When this happens you have inadvertently taken on their karma. Because the laws of karma are so little understood it’s very easy to do this. Usually their problems are an opportunity for them to grow. Find ways to helping them their problems in ways that encourage them to grow and evolve. This is the difference between showing them how, and doing it for them, or the difference between offering a helping hand, and carrying them. Find a way of working that is empowering and you will avoid taking on any client’s karma ever again, and even “work off” some of your own.
